Pedaling Toward Love: How Alexa Dell and Frédéric Choquette Found Romance on Two Wheels

Some love stories begin with grand gestures—whirlwind dates, serendipitous encounters, or love-at-first-sight fireworks. For Alexa Dell and Frédéric Choquette, it started with something simpler: the steady rhythm of bicycle wheels and the quiet certainty that sometimes, the best relationships unfold one ride at a time.

A Slow Burn in the Fast Lane

The pair first crossed paths in Los Angeles in 2023, introduced through mutual friends over rooftop drinks. But unlike many modern romances that rush from swipe to “so, what are we?” Alexa approached their connection with deliberate patience.

“I took my time to feel things out,” she admits. “There was no instant declaration—just getting to know each other, piece by piece.”

What began as casual hangouts soon found its rhythm when they discovered a shared passion: cycling.

“We started riding together, and that’s how our friendship formed,” Alexa recalls. The open road became their neutral ground—a place where conversation flowed as easily as the miles, where the pressure of romance gave way to the easy camaraderie of two people who genuinely enjoyed each other’s company.

The Turning Point: A Surf Competition and a Shift in Perspective

For six months, their dynamic remained firmly in the friend zone—until a single moment changed everything.

Alexa invited Frédéric to a local surf competition for her friend’s daughter, expecting nothing more than a casual outing. But watching him cheer on the young competitors with genuine enthusiasm, she saw a new side of him.

“He was so supportive, so present—not just for me, but for these kids he’d never met before,” she says. “That’s when I started to see him differently. That’s when I decided to give him a true shot.”

Fred, however, laughs when asked about his own timeline. “I knew from day one,” he confesses. “But I also knew Alexa needed to come to that conclusion on her own. So I waited.”

Why Their Story Resonates

In an era of dating apps and instant gratification, Alexa and Frédéric’s romance is a refreshing reminder that the best connections often grow slowly. Their foundation wasn’t built on grand declarations but on shared experiences—early morning rides, sunlit conversations, and the kind of quiet moments that reveal character far more than any staged date ever could.

“Cycling taught me patience,” Alexa reflects. “And in a way, so did Fred. Some things—whether it’s climbing a hill or falling in love—can’t be rushed.”

As for Frédéric? He’s just glad she finally caught up. “I’d have waited as long as it took,” he says with a grin. “But I’m happy she didn’t make me wait forever.”

Lessons in Love (and Cycling)

  1. Friendship First: Building a genuine connection outside of romance creates a stronger bond.
  2. Shared Passions Matter: Common interests—whether cycling, surfing, or something else—provide natural opportunities to connect.
  3. Timing Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All: If one person needs more time, patience isn’t just kind—it’s often worth it.

For now, the two are still riding together—both literally and figuratively. And while their relationship has shifted gears from friendship to something deeper, one thing remains the same: they’re still enjoying the journey, one pedal stroke at a time.
